Ingredients:
- 6 quarts of water
- 2 cups of tamarind, cleaned and peeled
- 2 cups of guava (yellow guavas are typical)
- 2 cups of tecojotes
- 2 cups of chopped apples
- 2 cups of membrillo
- 1/3 cup of prunes
- 1/3 cup of walnuts
- 2 cups of jamaica (dried hibiscus flower) flower
- 1 sugar cane, cleaned, skin removed and cut into 4 inch pieces
- 6 oranges, cut into pieces
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 2 lb of brown sugar or add to taste
Directions:
Cut all the fruit into similar sized pieces. Heat the water in a large stock pot add the cinnamon, sugar and sugar cane and stir. Then add the tamarind and jamaica. After about 5 minutes, add the rest of the fruits. Cook on medium heat for about 15 minutes and add sugar to taste.
Serving suggestions:
Ladle warm into mugs, for adults if you like add a splash of rum.
